This sticky rice bamboo steamer basket is approximately 13" x 9" in size and is made of natural bamboo. This basket is the best way to create true authentic delicious Thai style sticky rice.
The first time you use the sticky rice steaming basket, we recommend that you soak the steamer basket in water for a few hours. This will alleviate the taste of the bamboo, which naturally occurs. This taste will lessen the more you use the basket, but it does add a delicious aroma to the steamed rice. After many years of usage, your sticky rice bamboo steamer may suffer from natural wear and tear, but you can prolong the life of the steamer basket by using a cheesecloth. The cheesecloth makes lifting the rice from the bamboo steamer a lot easier too.
To cook the sticky rice, you will need to pre-soak the sticky rice at least 4 hours. Steam the rice in the sticky rice bamboo steamer placed over the steaming pot containing boiling water. Cover the sticky rice with any pot lid while the rice steams. Steam the sticky rice until cooked through. The steaming time depends on how long you have soaked the sticky rice and the moisture of the raw grain itself, but cooking time should be approximately 15-20 minutes.
